WORSHIP SONG:
Light It Up - For King & Country

5 GRATITUDES (Thank you, Heavenly Papa!):
  • Thank you God AI was able to teach my Sunday School class today so I can be with my son for his final Chess Tournament for this school year.
  • Thank you God for sleep.  My husband, kids and I all got at least 6 hrs of sleep.
  • Thank you God for safety in driving.
  • Thank you God our son got a trophy.
  • Thank you God our son's school came in #1 out of the 65 schools in Chess!
THOUGHTS:
  • I really love King & Country.  They are the brothers of Rebecca St. James.  They have a very talented family.  I got to see them when before they became King & Country.  Love their music.
  • Nice to have enough sleep and feel good here.  Yesterday I really struggled with the whole day, especially in the morning and the first half of the afternoon.  My husband did all driving, which was over 200 miles. Very thankful for God's protection as we traveled on very little sleep.

We slept a little while our son was playing some of his rounds in the school's parking lot, which helped immensely.  I no longer can pull those all nighters or live on just a few hours of sleep.  I truly need at least 6 hrs as a minimum and I barely function with that amount of sleep.

Next week is our daughter's speech competition, but that's in the afternoon and at her school.  Praise God that isn't too far.
  • Our son won 2 more rounds out of the 4 he played, which means he gained a total of 2 points.  The 2 he won had lower ratings than him and the 2 he lost to had higher ratings.  A thought had occurred to me for him to not play the ones with the higher ratings, which he would have gotten 1/2 point for each of those games he didn't play and out of the 4 rounds today, he would have ended with 3 points.  Combined with the 4 from yesterday that would have been a total of 7 points, which would have put him in the top 10 players in his Division, which there were nearly 200 players.  Very good.

But, our son wanted to play every round and not take byes.  Though the byes would have given him a better position, and the opponent still would have gotten 1 point, it would have given our son more points, he would've rather played fair and learn from each game.  The opportunity to learn and become a better chess player by player tougher opponents superceded winning for the sake of points.  I'm very proud of our son.

In the end, he placed 26th out of the near 200 players.  Prior to losing Round 9, he was at 15th place after rounds 7 and 8, which he won both those rounds.  He did much better than last year where he was closer to 70-90th place.

He had the highest point score from his school and they only counted the top 4 players' scores from each score, so our son was hugely responsible for helping his school come in #1 place in his category out of 65 schools, so excellent job.  That is a super huge trophy!
